Law Enforcement Policy

County Conservation Peace Officers Association of Iowa, Inc.
Established in 1985 - the CCPOA of Iowa was formed with the following goals:

1. To provide a network for gathering and sharing information.
2.To provide services that contribute to the professional development of county conservation employees working in park law enforcement.
3. Promote awareness and understanding of law enforcement in the park and recreation profession, and encourage support of these services.
4. Provide a newsletter on a periodic basis which will keep members informed and updated on new techniques and laws.
5. Sponsor sufficient training opportunities in coordination with the ILEA and other agencies to keep the membership current and informed with legal and procedural changes.
6. Work towards the enhancement of retirement benefits for the County Conservation Peace Officer class.

IPERS Retirement Benefits!
Governor Vilsak signed the 2002 IPERS bill into law in May 2002 - bringing County Conservation Peace Officers into the Protection Occupation Class within IPERS. The two major features of this classification change are that officers are now eligible to retire after 22 years of service at age 55 and receive 60% of their pay for life; OR, after 30 years of service at age 55 and receive 72% of their pay for life.
